Jennifer Bergmann

Human Resources Consultant

Jennifer Bergmann provides human resource solutions in compensation, employee relations, organizational design, employee communication and talent acquisition. She has over 25 years of human resources and consulting experience. She joined HRLink as a Principal in 2011.

Her areas of expertise are:

Jennifer has partnered with privately-held, family-owned, and publicly traded clients and focuses on start-up to medium size businesses. She has consulted in a range of industries, including professional services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, hospitality, marketing, advertising, manufacturing, event services, higher education and not-for-profit.

Here is a sample of her client work:

  • Collaborated with executives of a health wellness organization to develop its first compensation plan for over 2000 employees in their 15+ US offices. Jennifer created a rewards strategy and competitive pay structure across geographies that supported the business’ objectives. Jennifer also built pay structures for their corporate and executive positions.
  • Worked with the leadership team of a fast growing events company to develop a reward strategy and guiding principles. Used creative approach to perform a comprehensive market assessment to determine employee pay. Results were completed in a tight timeframe and used to help establish employee trust.
  • Developed and implemented a custom competitor survey to present market results to client on compensation, benefit practices and organizational design options. She evaluated job descriptions and conducted market pricing with pay recommendations.
  • Provided executive pay recommendations for a privately-held company based on market assessments and internal value of its officer positions. As an active member of their compensation committee, Jennifer has developed an agreed upon compensation philosophy and sound protocols for decision-making and communication. She also conducted research and led initiative to develop an employee short-term incentive plan.
  • Created numerous employee handbooks, which reflected the culture and “voice” of each organization in a conversational, yet informative manner.
  • Successfully recruited and selected high quality candidates for professional and executive level positions for multiple clients.
  • Designed a performance management process and tools to evaluate employees and managers based on the company’s values and competencies for a technology systems integration company.

Prior to her current role, Jennifer previously worked in human resources leadership positions for diverse organizations from small, growth-phase companies to large, established corporations.

Jennifer earned a BS degree in Education from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and a MSIR in Human Resources from Loyola University Chicago. She is also a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and a Global Remuneration Professional (GRP).

Jennifer’s book contributions and conference resources include topics on compensation, performance appraisals, career ladders, talent acquisition and human resources trends.

Carla Irwin

Human Resources Consultant

Carla Irwin is an affirmative action consultant who specializes in affirmative action strategy, development, implementation, audit support, outreach and training.

After completing law school, Carla began her corporate career in affirmative action at Zurich North America as an Affirmative Action Compliance Manager. While at Zurich, she managed Zurich’s Affirmative Action Programs and company-wide affirmative action training. From there, Carla was hired by Office Max as the Director of EEO & Diversity. During her tenure at OfficeMax, she was responsible for developing and implementing nearly 1,000 AAPs, managing OFCCP audits, conducting training, diversity initiatives and oversight of the applicant tracking system (ATS) for all Office Max locations.

In 2006, Carla realized that her education and experience, both as a lawyer and corporate executive, could help other companies identify and capitalize on opportunities to integrate comprehensive AAPs into their existing company structures. In October that year, Carla established Carla Irwin & Associates, Inc. and joined HRLink as a Principal.

Carla Irwin & Associates, Inc. is focused on helping companies design, develop and implement affirmative action programs. Carla and her team review all aspects of the business environment to provide a customized solution for compliance. Her practice supports clients across a broad span of industries from retail and gaming to manufacturing and technology.

Carla holds a BA degree from Southern Illinois University and JD from DePaul University College of Law.

Mary Lothrop’s dynamic blend of human resources consulting and executive coaching provides invaluable expertise. She seamlessly merges 30 years of human resources experience with a passion for personal development, creating a unique depth and breadth to her consultancy.

She’s guided start-ups and small businesses to Fortune 100 companies. Her clients span a range of industries, including manufacturing, technology and professional services, as well as non-profits.

Building on her years of corporate HR management in Fortune 50 food & consumer products corporations, Mary co-founded HRLink in 1993. HRLink is a specialized network of experienced human resource consultants offering a full range of HR consulting solutions. Her primary services include leadership development and teambuilding, executive, career and life coaching, HR strategic consulting, and talent acquisition. She is also skilled at creating customized and uniquely effective employee handbooks and HR communications to foster enhanced employee engagement.

Mary has trained, mentored and led many in her career. In 2007 her commitment to being in service to others merged with her leadership and project management skills as she co-founded and led a volunteer-based global disaster relief organization. Near to her heart, this non-profit funded several large-scale projects, including bringing community together to rebuild homes in post-Katrina New Orleans, as well as hands-on service to veterans, seniors, and children.

Mary mixes warmth, wisdom, and humor with her passion for accelerating corporate and personal development. Her generous spirit buoys her mission to cultivate constructive conversations to reveal strengths, clear obstacles, support growth and restore fulfillment.

Mary holds a B.A. from DePaul University’s School for New Learning with a concentration in Human Resources Management.
